Mask Mandate for Vestavia Hills Schools

Masks will be required in the Vestavia Hills city schools, officials announced Monday. The new policy comes amid a surge in COVID cases, including among school-age children. Superintendent Todd Freeman said COVID-related daily absences averaged nearly 5% last week, and all absences totaled 9%. He noted that those figures are considerably higher than the normal absentee rate of 4%. The mask mandate takes effect Wednesday, Sept. 1.
