WEIGH IN WEDNESDAYS

I like the accountability of weighing each Wednesday as part of the
Eatright UAB plan.
I hit the 61 1/2 lbs down mark last week, including 8 inches in my
waist!! My blood pressure has stabilized. I've gone down several shirt
and pants sizes. I've also made some great new friends who I see weekly
in my lifestyle class. This medically supervised weight loss plan is a

SUIT & TIE PLEASE!

Saturday night I attended the Alabama Broadcasters Association awards dinner (I had a salad).
My program director suggested a suit & tie.
Normally, those words would have put fear in my heart! I was relieved  to fit comfortably in a suit and not look like a fat guy in a little coat
(paraphrasing the late, great comic Chris Farley). Yes, I even sported a
belt & tucked in shirt.....something skinny people take for granted. The
compliments made for an even better experience. The sweetest words on the planet are "I can tell you're losing weight"!
We were blessed to win Best Talk Show too.
It was a great night.

NEW DISCOVERY....STAIRS!

Thanks to my 50 lb weight loss with UAB Eatright,I'm now taking the stairs at work! Our radio studio is on the 5th floor. I had to FIND the stairs. I was an elevator guy...shocking I know. One of my fitness trainers,Brooks, has me up & down the stairs at UAB. She suggested I add a floor of stairs every few days at work too. Every little bit helps.
Fifty pounds ago I could not do it. I broke a sweat tying my shoes....so I bought boots! I'm on my second 50 lb goal now. The food plan, fitness, and lifestyle classes have really been a complete package for me. There are multiple options at Eatright. Check them out now....do it for yourself.

It's all in your head

Don't be fooled. Losing weight, and keeping it off for good, is
primarily a mental activity. Many people I see get caught up in the idea
that something's wrong with them, be it their metabolism, thyroid
function, or just bad genes. It's important not to minimize the impact
that these factors have on how quickly you may lose weight or your total
weight loss; however, 90% of the factors related to successful weight
loss and maintenance of that weight loss are completely in your control.

Your ability to manage your emotions, plan, and problem solve play a
huge role in leading to success. If you are an emotional eater, focusing
on how you can "speed up your metabolism" won't solve the problem of
overeating when you get anxious or upset. However, learning new coping
skills and ways to respond to stressful situations may actually lead to
more control. When we are working with clients like Steve, we take time
to focus on these issues because we know anybody can lose weight, but
not everyone can keep it off. Even though I'm trained as a medical
doctor and use all of the latest advances in medical science to treat
obesity, I spend a lot of time doing behavioral counseling-because it
works.

JUST TWO MORE!

"Just two more" is a favorite line of my fitness trainer,Allison.
I told her that would make a great book title.
Wednesday is the day I chose to be weighed, see  Dr Ard, and attend a lifestyle class at UAB Eatright.
My blood is taken and monitored every other week.
One of my favorite parts of my visit is spent in the waiting room talking to others on the plan.We have become friends....all in it together. We share secrets
about our successes and obstacles. I've found this time to be like therapy.....very helpful. I no longer feel like the lone ranger. We have all watched each other get smaller too!
Eatright is really a full service plan.....to lose a little weight (25 lbs in 12 weeks) or a lot of weight.
UAB Eatright Optifast is my plan. It is customized for what I need.
Check it out....it may be your answered weight loss prayer.
Visit  www.eatright.uab.edu

PS. Did I mention I am so close to losing 50 lbs.....then another 50!
I completed my first 5K walk!
My blood pressure is down considerably.
I feel great too.....more energy!
